Agent keeps dream alive by including aut

Sandusky, OH—An author was spared eating an extra 5000 calories today when she received a rejection letter from one of her top three agents with an encouraging ‘thumbs-up’ emoji. “Honestly, I was going to go to town on those three cupcakes,” Julie Danvers said. “And I had three more in the wings.” Not only did the rejection letter include the encouraging emoji, it also addressed her by name. “If it hadn’t done that, I probably would’ve passed the emoji off as a mistake. But the agent even called me Jules, just like my mother does. It cut right through the icy diamond that my heart has become after all the rejections I’ve received over the years.”

The agent, who asked to remain anonymous, was delighted and surprised. “You know, I paused before I did it. You want to encourage authors you reject, but it’s a fine line because sometimes you can encourage some of them too much. Which can bog down the whole publishing industry in the long run. I’m just glad this time it worked out.” Asked about addressing Julie as Jules the agent blamed ‘stupid autocorrect.’

Inspired and emboldened by the emoji, Ms. Danvers is going to make “one more pass” on her science-fiction novel before sending it out again.

She plans on giving the cupcakes to her local food bank.
